Our Trumpet Teacher
Craig graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2002 where he majored in both Trumpet Performance and Music Education, achieving the degree of B.Mus.Ed. Currently the Head of Music and Creative Arts at Winmalee High School Craig also enjoys performing as a professional trumpeter in Australia and Internationally. Craig regularly performs with Australia’s premiere Big Band, The Sydney Jazz Orchestra. Internationally, Craig has been employed a casual military musician for the Royal British Forces (2003) and more recently as a member of the Prime Time Big Band (Calgary, Canada 2018- 2019).
He has played with James Morrison, John Morrison, Angry Anderson, Al Muirhead, Ed Wilson, Gary Guthman and Jim Murray to list a few as well as the Australian Blue Brothers Band. Highlights in Craig’s career has seen him workshopped by world class classical trumpeter Hakan Hardenberger as well as being involved in workshops run at the Midwest Clinic (Chicago) by top commercial trumpeters such as Wayne Bergeron and Jens Lindemann.
Craig has a passion for Music Education, especially in providing opportunities for students in the Western Sydney area. One of his most enjoyable experiences is conducting youth wind bands. Craig spent 12 years conducting the Western Sydney State Schools Concert Band who under his leadership were State NSW Champion Band for number of those years.
Craig has been influenced by the many great performers he has seen live all around the world including Maynard Ferguson, Jon Faddis, Wayne Bergeron, Gordon Goodwin and one of his favourites and in his honest opinion the world’s best big band The Airmen of Note.
