Penrith Conservatorium of Music – Young Composers Program
The Young Composers Program at Penrith Conservatorium of Music is dedicated to nurturing emerging composers in Western Sydney, with a focus on those from the Penrith Local Government Area. This program provides a unique opportunity for young composers aged 18–35 to refine their craft, engage with professional industry mentors, and see their compositions performed by talented young musicians.
Through collaboration with advanced students from Penrith Con’s Ensemble Programs, participants will receive valuable feedback, allowing them to hone their skills in a supportive, creative, and collaborative environment. Whether you’re looking to explore new musical ideas or develop your compositional style, this program offers a platform to advance your career while contributing to the local arts community.

How to apply
To apply, submit your portfolio to conservatorium@penrith.city. Your portfolio should include:
- A minimum of two original compositions (scores of 80–200 bars, with optional audio recordings)
- A full resume
- A list of prior compositions or arrangements, including instrumentation
Commission Details
Composers will be commissioned to create an original piece, approximately 10 to 15 minutes in length, featuring the following instrumentation:
Flute, 2 Violins, Viola, Cello, and Piano. Alternative instrumentation may be discussed with the Artistic Director.
Composers will receive a $3,000 fee
